had some free time on my hands so took some time with today's card. here's what i see on this beautiful southern california day.
r1: oro desert. this guy looks the goods for mullins, after popping and stopping against optional claimers in his last. he should sit right off tribe and roll on by past the 8th pole.
r4: she's got appeal. this cardenas trainee is giving up valuable experience to a bunch of these, including likely favorite alchema, but ruben knows how to get a winner first out and her price figures to be right. rahy is decent win-early sire and the presence of nakatani and strong drills add to the appeal. i'd also keep an eye out for malaysia, who probably needs a route of ground to show her best, but harty has been high on this one for a while now.
r5: strategically. all we need to do is forgive the last debacle and we should get a nice price on this son of bretrando who has had more physical problems than most bertrandos, but does have his sire's speed. if canani has him in one piece, he'll be tough to beat.
r6: rave party. old warren stute doesn't win often first time out, but i think this son of memo may have more speed than the works show. this race seems like one of those that the front runners will dominate and i hope corey can get this one away in good order and press the pace to the winner's circle at 8/1.
r9: feature story. can't really make heads or tails out of this race full of cheap 25k maidens, but feature story comes out of a very fast race and gets a huge rider upgrade to espinoza as he drops to a new low. i wouldn't take anything less than the 7/2 morning line, but at that price or above, i'll play him.
